The Visit to La Loma de los Vientos
OK now for the "
pièce de résistance" of the entire park, La Loma de
los Vientos itself!
Unfortunately also here ends most of the
photography. The museum has a strictly enforced policy of no flash
photography! On a well lit day without cloud or haze cover in the
Southern California sky taking photos inside the museum might work.
The
same policy of no flash photography can be seen in many art & historical
type museums as it has been proven that repeated and heavy use of camera
flashes can lead to deteriorated artifacts.
The tower is a rather unique structure. The staff at the museum could
not give a complete explanation as to what it's original purpose was.
The photo on the right is where you turn to walk up to the front
entrance of the museum.
As you can see the light was fading fast
as this was December and the days are shorter. The mountains to the West
perfectly blocked the sunlight to my dismay.
The Pool has been filled in. I seem to remember one of the staff
relating that the primary reason for filling in the pool was for
earthquake safety, but don't quote me on that info. The pool area looks
almost Roman in architecture and the structure sits at a much lower
level than the remainder of the mansion buildings.
Right Image: As you
turn the corner from the gated entrance you will see this view of the
mansion.
Above is the front of the mansion. The actual entrance is just to the
left of this photo.
Interior hallway inside of the mansion, this is on the 1st floor near
the kitchen.

This is the back patio area. This is also where we exited from. But
notice the area I have marked in a red rectangle in the upper left of
the photo. This is the observation room which is located next to the
projector room inside the mansion.
View from inside the observation room.
Another view from the observation room this time not obscured by those
pesky tree! The direction of this view is to the north. The structures
in the background are part of
Santa Clarita. Right in the center of the photo where
that silly watermark is you can see the tower.
Another view from the observation room. The chimney has new caps
emplaced. One of the museum staff related to me that in the past the
staff found a family of Ravens inside the
mansion and it was certain that the Ravens had entered through the open
chimney. (Our guide may have said Raccoons but I seem to remember
Ravens, you know Raven and Raccoons both start with Rrrr!)
