A very different tree for a desert indeed! This large bushy tree in this photo is an Elderberry tree (Sambucus mexicana), growing somewhat out of its usual mountainous habitat. Usually found in the canyons and foothills to the south.

The berries are eaten by birds and small animals and have been used to make a jelly by native Americans (Indians).
